URGENT alert from the Tompkins County SPCA
Please help the Tompkins County SPCA raise money for a new animal ambulance. I made my donation today; I hope you can, too. If not, please pass this information on to your network.
I received this urgent alert today from the SPCA of Tompkins County:
During today's winter storm, one in a series during a difficult season, an SPCA employee was called out to save a badly injured cat.
Regardless of the severe weather, the SPCA made it out to Jacksonville to help the poor kitty who had been hit by a car. On the way back to the shelter in driving snow and poor conditions, the "animal ambulance" slid off the road into a guard rail, damaging the vehicle. The SPCA officer and cat both made it back to the shelter, but the vehicle cannot be repaired for several days.
Our community is unflinchingly generous and we operate successfully entirely due to your full support and generosity. We have some insurance, but the immediate urgent need for a new, safe, weather-appropriate animal ambulance is crucial to our ability to save animals in desperate need regardless of the weather conditions. We have been struggling with two older model vehicles for several years, and it is clearly time to upgrade.
A new animal ambulance will cost $25,000 and we need your extra help more than ever. Please help us with any size gift for a new animal ambulance today, and know that if it is your pet in need on the roads, we will be able to respond quickly and safely.
To make a gift for the Animal Ambulance Fund, please click here. Or, mail your gift to the shelter at 1640 Hanshaw Road, Ithaca, NY, 14850 with a memo that it is for the Animal Ambulance. Thank you, and be safe.

Stand with Planned Parenthood
One of my favorite students brought me some buttons to support Planned Parenthood and their Birth Control Matters campaign.
I am so proud of my student. She's been involved in free condom distributions and is a leader of IC's VOX chapter.
Please know that Planned Parenthood exists for much more than to terminate pregnancies. PP also provides education and affordable reproductive health care, including cancer screenings and breast exams. You might be surprised what your state will lose without PP's services. Please sign the letter of support today.

Spay Day 2011
The Humane Society of the United States estimates that in the U.S. alone, 4 million dogs and cats are killed yearly. That is a death almost every 8 seconds. Much of that is unnecessary killing that we could reduce or eliminate if we would as a society adopt instead of shop and spay or neuter our pets. Please learn more about the issue of pet overpopulation and support the HSUS and your local shelter!

Quotation of the Day
"May the sun bring you new energy by day, may the moon softly restore you by night, may the rain wash away your worries, may the breeze blow new strength into your being. May you walk through the world and know its beauty all the days of your life."
~Apache Blessing
I saw this Apache Blessing on Llama Surya Das' website today. Reading it I felt a sense of peace and serenity. I hope you do, too.
