All of us, including the dogs, George's parents, and Gary, went to the welcome back BBQ tailgate hosted by the School of Business Peer Advisors group. Walter and Norman wore the school colors, yellow and blue. They love spending time with the students!

March for the Animals!
SPCA's March for the Animals is just one month away. Have you registered yet? Don't miss this opportunity to help the animals of our community while having fun on an early fall walk. This is a critical fundraiser for the SPCA of Tompkins County and they need all hands on deck. In a few days, I'll tell you how you can sponsor me in the walk if you aren't able to participate in the March yourself.

Quotation of the Day: Popular Press Edition
Stivers: Don't that just stick in your craw.

hats hats hats
People who knit tend to have a thing they like to knit most. Or so I like to tell myself. HATS are what I like to knit. Unfortunately, there just aren't that many heads in my life. I have made myself many hats, and George, and lots of friends and family, but there is a limit to the number of hats a person can reasonably have. So, I decided to do some knitting for charity this summer. These hats are packaged and ready to go to the Teen Stork Room in Troy, New York. Next up, hats for the Pine Ridge Reservation. Too bad I won't get to knit again until the semester is over!

The Fierce Urgency of Now
"We refuse to believe that the bank of justice is bankrupt. We refuse to believe that there are insufficient funds in the great vaults of opportunity of this nation. And so, we've come to cash this check, a check that will give us upon demand the riches of freedom and the security of justice."
~Martin Luther King, Jr.
"I Have a Dream"
August 28, 1963
Have you listened to Martin Luther King deliver his speech? I know you've heard excerpts, but I hope you will listen to it in its entirety at American Rhetoric. (You can read the speech there, too, but you need to listen to MLK deliver the stirring words.) It is brilliantly constructed and delivered with such bravery and skill. Every time I listen to it, I feel inspired and I learn something new. I often feel angry that he was taken from me - from all of us - by hateful and selfish agents but then, he reminds me not to drink from the "cup of bitterness and hatred." Instead, I'll focus today on his dream for the future.
